Knee Replacement Surgery Live On Internet Tuesday

Posted

If you ever wanted to check out a knee replacement surgery - without wearing the scrubs - Tuesday is your chance.

Anyone with access to the Internet can check out the surgical procedure on ahn.com, the interactive service of health cable channel, America's Health Network.

Zimmer Inc., the Warsaw-based orthopedic manufacturer, is sponsoring the event, which begins at 9 a.m.

"We are pleased to play a role in expanding consumer understanding of arthritis treatments, including joint replacement," said Ray Elliott, Zimmer president.

Dr. Richard Cohen, of the Georgia Joint Replacement Center, will perform the surgery at WellStar Cobb Hospital in suburban Atlanta.

"Over the last 20 years, the public has shown an increasing thirst for information about medical procedures and treatments," said Cohen. "And that education is only making it easier for the medical profession to communicate with patients. These kinds of programs not only help to educate but also help to bring balance and understanding to the choices patients need to make."

The website will also include information about the Foundation on arthritis and knee joint replacements. Zimmer's website (zimmer.com) also has educational materials, including a patient self-assessment quiz.

The broadcast is also available to direcTV subscribers on channel 289 and via satellite transponder SBS6-15KU.
