Knapp Lake Sewer Project Could Connect To Webster

Posted
NORTH WEBSTER – After years of trying, residents of Knapp Lake are closer than ever to getting sewer services.

Representatives from Knapp Lake Conservancy District, along with Mark. B. Jesse of GAI Consultants out of Fort Wayne, met with the North Webster Town Council during a special meeting Wednesday night.

Though Knapp Lake is in western Noble County, after attempts to connect to Cromwell, the Knapp Lake Conservancy District decided to attempt to connect to North Webster’s wastewater treatment plant.

No action was taken Wednesday night except for the council gave town attorney Jack Birch the go-ahead to work with Knapp Lake’s attorney on the language of any contracts or ordinances.

Severn Trent, the company that takes care of North Webster’s wastewater treatment plant, also will have input on whether the amount Knapp Lake is willing to pay for sewer service is beneficial to the town and doesn’t put a burden on North Webster residents.

Jesse said the North Webster plant is more than capable of taking the expected 35,180 gallons of flow from Knapp Lake.

Knapp Lake would be responsible for purchasing any equipment needed to put in the collection station it’s proposed to use.

The proposed station Knapp Lake’s waste would go to is located at CR 950N and Turkey Creek Drive.

There are about 200 connections.

Jesse said Knapp Lake residents would also consider contracting out the operation and maintenance of the collection system to the town of North Webster or a private contractor.

The Knapp Lake project has been able to fund the project though low-interest U.S. Department of Agriculture loans and grants.

Jesse said Knapp Lake also will apply for a $500,000 loan through the Office of Community and Rural Affairs.
