As part of The Big Read, Kosciusko Literacy Services presents a free performance of Live Oakes Educational Theater's "The Call of the Wild the Life of Jack London" at 6:30 p.m. April 14 at The Performing Arts Center of Warsaw Community High School.

"The Call of the Wild" is the book selection and free copies are available throughout Kosciusko County. Kosciusko Literacy Services invites the community to read the book and join the activities.

In this portrayal, actor Michael Oakes tells the greatest story Jack London ever wrote, London's own life story. From the age of 9, London toiled as a "wage-slave" factory worker, oyster pirate, sailor, writer, and rancher. In his 40 years, London roamed the globe from the Klondike to the South Seas and Asia. In 1897, stricken with gold fever, London sailed to join the Klondike Gold Rush. Later, London used the Yukon and Klondike as settings for his first successful stories. London twice ran for mayor of Oakland, and one party recruited him as a presidential candidate.

London wrote 52 books and more than 1,000 articles and essays. He gained fame for enduring classics such as "The Call of the Wild", "To Build a Fire" and "The Sea Wolf". His social writings, such as "The War of the Classes", "The People of the Abyss" and "John Barleycorn" provide insights into the great labor, suffrage and temperance movements of his day.
