KLS Hosts Tom Sawyer Day Saturday; Mark Twain On Paddle Boat Sunday

Kosciusko Literacy Services will host two special events for the conclusion of The Big Read featuring "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain.

Tom Sawyer Day is Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at Lucerne Park, 800 N. Park Ave., Warsaw. Test your watermelon seed-spitting skills; enter a frog-jumping contest (bring your own frog); find hidden treasure; whitewash a fence; or dress as Tom Sawyer, Becky Thatcher or another character from the book. At 2 p.m., The Goldmine Pickers perform bluegrass and Americana music.

Mark Twain on the Dixie Paddleboat in North Webster is Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Ride the Dixie, dress in period costume (optional), and tour Lake Webster. Dr. Rik Lovelady will play his banjo music. Excursions will debark at approximately 1:15 and 2:45 p.m.The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.
