Treat others to a good book.

New and gently used children's books will again be accepted at the Festival of Trees for distribution through Kosciusko Literacy Services' "Reading Won't Wait" program.Children throughout the community will be able to enjoy books and the reading time together with their parents. Reading aloud to a young child helps the child's brain become stronger and build important connections for learning. Currently, there are 15 locations with "Reading Won't Wait" bins throughout the county.

Kosciusko Literacy Services provides books to newborns at KCH, books to at-risk children from birth until their fifth birthday who live in the county, sponsors a celebration of reading in the Wawasee elementary schools, and promotes the Big Read; a community-wide reading project to encourage discussion about character development and issues regarding youth in our community.

Kosciusko Literacy Services also provides tutors for adult students working on their GED or learning English as a second language and adult new readers in collaboration with the Alternative Learning Center. Workplace literacy programs are available in partnership with area companies.

You can help make literacy a priority in our community. Donate new or gently used children's books at the Kosciusko Literacy Services trees during Festival hours Nov. 19-23. Treat others to a good book.

Kosciusko Literacy Services is a United Way agency.
