Kishan Named Outstanding Prospective Teacher Of The Year

WINONA LAKE - Neena Kishan, daughter of K.T. and Anita Kishan, Warsaw, was one of three students from Grace College who were recognized by the Indiana Association of Colleges for Teacher Education April 17 in Carmel at the organization's Recognition Day for Outstanding Future Educators.Each member college or university nominates its student teachers that have excelled in their entire education program, especially in their student teaching assignments. Kishan was named the outstanding prospective special education teacher of the year from Grace College for the 2008-2009 school year. She student taught at Leesburg Elementary under the supervision of Julie Hursey, and at Warsaw Community High School under the supervision of Barb Martz.

In all, there were 130 award recipients from 42 colleges and universities with teacher education programs.

The awards day included a panel discussion that addressed the topic of "New Teacher Mentoring." Three of the six panelists were educators from Harrison Elementary School in Warsaw: Randy Polston, principal; Judy Kinsey and Rick Glass, both fourth-grade teachers.
