Kingsfoil Looks To Have A Good Time Making MusicTwo bands touring the country joined a local band Friday night at the Downtown in Warsaw for a three-hour show. But it was the drummer for headliner Kingsfoil that got everyone’s attention, despite the drummer’s best intentions to play it low key. Frankie Muniz, former child star of the family sitcom “Malcolm in the Middle” and the “Agent Cody Banks” movies, constantly was asked to pose for photos. Even when he was getting his drum set ready for the gig, Muniz still stopped for a moment for a photo. “I’ve been drumming for a few years,” Muniz said during a band interview. “I’ve been with the band for four months, three months. It’s just something I’ve always wanted to do and I love it more than anything so I’m having lots of fun.” When Kingsfoil finally took the stage after Fair Fjola and Ducky and the Vintage performed, someone exclaimed, “We love you, Frankie!” Before the show, members of Kingsfoil gave an interview about the band and their music. Besides Muniz, the members include Jordan Davis on lead vocals, guitar and piano; Tristan Martin on guitar, piano and backing vocals; and Tim Warren, bass and backing vocals. “We play pop/rock music, and we’re really excited to be out here tonight. We’ve been playing for about, as a band, for five years. Frankie has joined recently,” said Davis. “We’re having a blast. “We don’t really play any covers. We play pretty much all of our songs and it’s kind of how we like it that way.” The Downtown show was the band’s fifth show of the band’s tour, Muniz said. “We have another 12 or so to go. We’re having a blast, we’re happy to be in Warsaw and we’re excited to play.” According to the band’s Facebook page, Kingsfoil hit the scene in 2007 with their debut EP “Bear in the Attic”. In summer 2010, the band self-released its LP “On Our Own Together.” “We have an album out right now we’re touring with, it’s called ‘On Our Own Together’, it’s been out for a little while now. We have a brand new album coming out, it’ll be out in the fall. We’re pretty excited about it,” Davis said. Warren said the album sounds a little like Coldplay and Kings of Leon. “It sounds a bit like our last record, but we’ve gotten a little better at figuring out how to write, how to arrange,” Davis said. “We definitely feel like it’s better than our last record.” For Friday’s show, Davis said they were going to mix it up between old and new songs. “This is the first tour we’re actually going to be playing some new songs. We’re really excited about that,” Davis said. “We’re playing, I think, three new songs that are going to be on our new record so we’re really excited about that. We’re kind of trying them out on this new tour. The rest of these songs are off this (last) album ... so, yeah, a good mixture.” As to how they measure their success and long-range goals, Muniz said, “Just being busy, being on the road, playing shows, people wanting to see you. If you’re traveling around and playing music, that’s all you can really ask for.”Kingsfoil became a band over a course of a number of years. “Tristan and I grew up together, writing songs,” said Davis. “Tim, we’ve known for quite awhile. He joined the band awhile back. Frankie is our newest member. We’re really excited to have him. He’s really one of our best friends, so it feels pretty natural to have him in the band. And we’re really excited. It’s been a really nice ride and I feel like we’re really coming into our own right now.” After the stop in Warsaw, Kingsfoil and Ducky and the Vintage were heading to Waukegan, Ill.; Bowling Green, Ky. Memphis, Tenn. Nashville, Tenn. Chattanooga, Tenn. and more. “We’re kind of all over the place,” said Muniz. For more information on the band, Davis said fans can check out their website at kingsfoil.com, Facebook page at facebook.com/kingsfoil or Twitter at twitter.com/kingsfoil “Pretty much Google our names and we’ll come up and you can find our songs and all sorts of info. We use a lot of online stuff a lot and it’s kind of fun for us to talk to people, to connect to people,” said Davis. “We always have a good time talking to our fans.” He said the band is really excited to share their music and new album. “Tell your friends. We can’t wait to come to your town,” Davis concluded. For a free video of this interview, and the interview with Ducky and the Vintage, check out the video section at www.timesuniononline.com
