Kindermusik Classes To Be Offered In Warsaw

Early exposure to music will help a child develop, according to Cheryl Bremer.

In coalition with the Grace Community Orchestra, Bremer is starting a Kindermusik program to expose young children to music. The program will begin in February at Pleasant View Bible Church, Warsaw.

"Kindermusik is an early childhood music education program that uses music and movement in its curriculum to develop all areas of the child. It reaches children newborn to 7 years old," said Bremer Monday.

She will teach a "Village Class," which is for newborn babies to 18 months old, and an "Our Time" class for children 18 months to 3 years. Classes will be Thursday mornings, beginning at 9 a.m., for the "Village Class" and will last 25 minutes. Cost for the classes is $188 for a 16-week semester, which includes tuition and materials.

Some of the activities will include rhythm instrument exploration, singing, movement, dance, literature exploration and exposure to all different types of music.

Kindermusik, Bremer said, is based on the belief that every child is musical, every parent is a child's most important teacher and the home is an important place for a child to learn.

Bremer will teach the class by herself. She said, "I am a nationally-licensed Kindermusik teacher," with bachelor's degrees in music education and special education. She taught in public schools during the last nine years and is taking this semester off to be with her own children.

The name of the Kindermusik program is "Grace Community Orchestra Presents Kindermusik with Cheryl." Grace's "purpose" in the class, Bremer said, is to help support music education for all ages.

Of the importance of the program, Bremer said, "One of the biggest things is that early music has such an impact on a child's development."
