Warsaw Police and emergency personnel responded to a two vehicle accident at 11:59 a.m. Monday at the intersection of U.S. 30 and Silveus Crossing. Lester Hamell, 64, Kimmel, had a yellow light and attempted to make a left turn on to Silveus Crossing when his pickup truck was struck by a westbound semi driven by Eryk Nowak, 33, River Grove, Ill. Witnesses stated that west bound traffic had a green light and Nowak had no time to stop or avoid the collision. Hamell was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, for back and internal injuries. He was in fair condition as of late this morning. Nowak sustained minor injuries and refused medical treatment on the scene. The accident was investigated by Kosciusko County Fatal Alcohol Crash Team, Warsaw Police Department, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department, Warsaw/Wayne Township Fire Territory, Multi Township EMS and Indiana State Police Commercial Vehicle Division.
