Kids Market Sale Aimed At Helping Families Through Economic SlumpWINONA LAKE - Local families can save some money on spring shopping and help those in need at the same time Saturday at the Spring 2009 Kids Market sale.

Kids Market Inc. is a volunteer-run, non-profit organization aimed at helping the women and children of Kosciusko County. Kids Market offers two consignment sales each year, one in spring and one in fall. Saturday's sale will be at Rodeheaver Auditorium, Ninth Street, Winona Lake.

"I hope that this sale will help the many families that are struggling due to the economy and loss of jobs," said Kids Market Coordinator Gretchen Smoker.

Smoker said Kids Market sales are designed to help area families in several ways.

Families shopping for children's items will find Kids Market a low-priced, one-stop shop. The sales feature items for infants through children's size 14, maternity items, gently used clothing, toys, furniture, strollers, car seats, nursery décor, books, movies and other items related to children, at yard sale prices.

Anyone is welcome to shop at the sale 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday. The doors will close at 2:30 p.m., but will re-open from 3 to 5 p.m. with all remaining items sold for 50 percent off.

"This is another great opportunity for community members to save even more," Smoker said.

Families contributing items to sell at the sale can earn a little extra money from the items sold. Contributors prepare and price their own items and then bring them to Kids Market during the designated drop-off times. From there, Kids Market takes care of inspecting the items to ensure that only items of high quality are sold in the sale. Sellers receive 60 percent of the selling price for each item they sold at the sale.

Kids Market uses the remaining 40 percent to pay for rental of the building, supplies and marketing for the sale. The money Kids Market has left after paying for the sale's expenses is donated to local charities, which share Kids Market's mission of serving women and children in the community. Some of the non-profits Kids Market donates to include Heartline, Beaman Home, BABE, CCS Project Independence and area Mothers of Preschoolers groups.

After their fall sale in September, Kids Market donated $7,330 to local charities involved in helping women and children in need.
