Kids' Injuries Bring Arrest

Investigation of injuries to a 3-year-old child has led to the arrest of two Warsaw residents.

Rachelle Gayheart, 27, of 1610 Fox Farm Road, Warsaw, was arrested on two counts of neglect of a dependent. She was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 6:45 p.m., posted a $2,000 bond and then was released.

Christopher Leon Poyser, 34, of 1502 Dot St., Warsaw, was arrested at 2:44 a.m. today on four counts of felony battery. His bond was set at $10,000.

According to the Warsaw Police Department, the investigation began when medical personnel at MedStat and Kosciusko Community Hospital reported suspicious injuries to the 3-year-old girl who was treated Nov. 28. The girl reportedly suffered several fractures to her body, including her elbow, ankle and ribs. She also had bruising on her face and body.

Some of the girl's injuries looked like they were healing, which means that they probably occurred over a period of time. Doctors who examined the child said the injuries could have happened over a two- to four-week period before the Nov. 28 visit.

During the investigation, two other children, ages 6 and 8, reported they were battered while in the care of an unrelated man.

Warsaw detectives provided the information to the Kosciusko County Prosecutor's Office, and Poyser, 34, was charged with battery associated with injuries to all three children.
