The Center for Arts and Culture (CAC) just finished its fourth year as sponsor of the Kid's Tent at the Village at Winona's Spring Art Fair last weekend. Each year it seems to get bigger and better. Even though rains closed the fair a little early this year, a record number of children signed in to enjoy the artistic activities.
Brent Wilcoxson of the Village at Winona provided the large tent, and the tables and chairs for the event. This year there were 10 art projects for the kids. Rock painting was the favorite, as always. 185 children signed in to paint rocks. 130 signed in to build a clay project from either white or red self-hardening clay. Mono-prints, quilt squares and lids with ribbons each recorded over 100 sign-ins. Watercolor butterflies, fused bead art, bookmarks, origami, and decorated sacks to hold all their projects rounded out the activities that were available. In all, 938 kids' signatures were recorded.
The volunteers to run the tables included Melodie Koher and her recruits from the Lakeland Art Association (LAA), Ceridwen, Courtney, Jasmine, Sheryl, Tasha, and Diane. CAC recruits Eugenia, Cara, Dario, Willie, Dick, and Debbie, were joined by two Warsaw Community Elementary art teachers Maggie Thompson and Jan Lantz. Nine year old, Drake Swartzentruber, drew caricatures for a couple hours on Saturday for the fourth year in a row.
While the first art project at each table was free for each child, a small donation was accepted for any subsequent projects made at a given table. The $66.50 which was collected in donations is being given to the not-for-profit Lakeland Art Gallery located at in Pierceton for use in their Kids classes.
It is a pleasure to be able to provide this artistic experience for our area kids.
