INDIANAPOLIS - Youth Philanthropy Initiative of Indiana held their annual YP JAM July 10-11 at Butler University, Indianapolis.
Kosciusko Endowment Youth Services students Cassady Palmer and Jayna Winegarden (Wawasee High School) and Scott Smyth (Warsaw Community High School) and Navigator Lori Masur, Kosciusko County Community Foundation, attended the conference. KEYS is the youth philanthropy program of the Community Foundation.
The conference theme was "Our Voice Rocks: Citizens in Action." Attendees explored youth civic engagement that would make their community a better place. KEYS students participated in break-out sessions on holding an effective service project, working with elected officials in their community, and meeting community needs, to name a few."I enjoyed the panel presentation by Indiana youth who successfully organized a service project in their community. Some of these projects included working with Indianapolis homeless, raising money for cancer research and refurbishing bikes to give to needy children. I was inspired by these youth to make a difference in my community in some way," said Jayna Winegarden.
Cassady Palmer said, "I recognize that my voice can join other young people's voices to make an impact in my community."
By attending this conference's workshops and service events, the KEYS students gained skills that will allow them to become citizens in action. The KEYS students will share these newly gained ideas and perspectives with other KEYS members this upcoming school year.
