AKRON – Kenneth E. Menzie, 73, Warsaw, passed away unexpectedly at 6:05 p.m. Dec. 2, 2013, in the home of his daughter, Darlene. He was born Dec. 21, 1939, in South Bend, to Kenneth and Elsie Kirkpatrick Menzie. On June 4, 1960, in South Bend, he married Joyce Barson. Then in August 1990 in South Bend he married Nancy VanDenHandel, who died Oct. 11, 1995. He graduated from John Adams High School, South Bend, in 1958, and was a member of the U.S. Air Force. He lived in Warsaw the past four years. He worked at Elixir Industries, Elkhart, for 30 years, retiring in 2007 as a shop foreman. He enjoyed playing golf and watching football (favorite teams were Notre Dame and Florida State); he was an avid card player; and his rough exterior gave way to a softer heart. Surviving are a son, Donnie (and spouse Judy) Menzie, Mishawaka; three daughters: Dianne (and spouse Jerry) Szmanda, and Denise (and spouse Will) Van Scoyk, both of South Bend; Darlene (and spouse Jim) Krallman, Warsaw; two sisters, Terri Jo (and spouse Art) Van Laecke, Niles, Mich., and Marjorie (and spouse Mark) Stephenson, Moultrie, Ga.; his mother, Elsie Townsend, Moultrie; eight grandchildren: Amber (and spouse Chris) Solina, North Webster; Matthew (and spouse Jessica) Krallman, and Kaci Menzie, both of Mishawaka; Jennifer (and spouse Adam) Habegger, and Andrew Krallman, both of Warsaw; Tony (and spouse Danielle) Evanoff, and Bryan Evanoff, both of South Bend; and Austin Szmanda; eight great-grandchildren: Aric, August, Jordan, Landen, Cameron, Logan, Sienna and Katie. He also was preceded in death by his stepfather, Donald Townsend, who died April 16, 2009. Services will be at noon Friday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, with Pastor Michael Hontz, Pleasant View Bible Church, Warsaw, officiating. Burial is in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
