AKRON Ð Kenneth D. Howard, 54, Argos, and formerly of Akron, died at 1:25 p.m. March 19, 2009, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center Emergency Room, Plymouth. He had been in failing health since July 2007.
He was born Feb. 8, 1955, in Auburn, to Lee and Maggie Shepherd Howard. On Jan. 23, 1973, in Rochester, he married Joyce E. Opple, and she passed May 1, 2001. On Oct. 20, 2001, in Rochester, he then married Deborah Trump Howard, who survives.
He worked as a maintenance manager at Hickory Creek Health Care of Rochester, and did some general contracting.
Also surviving are five daughters: Kendra (and spouse Roger) Rife, Angela (and spouse Brian) Graham and Elaina Howard, all of Rochester; Lesli (and spouse Brandon) Miller, North Liberty; Lacey (and spouse Eric) Clark, Argos; 12 grandchildren; two sisters, Sue Clemons and Stephanie Howard, both of Ligonier; and three brothers, Lee Jr. (and spouse Linda) Howard, Wabash; Les (and spouse Boots) Howard and Paul Howard, all of Nappanee. He is preceded in death by his parents and a grandchild.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron, with Pastor Luther Bailey officiating. Burial will be in Akron Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
