KCSD Opens Twitter Account

Posted
The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department has taken a new approach to providing information to media and citizens with the use of Twitter.

Police and sheriff agencies throughout the country have attempted to keep up to speed with the current surge of technology available to the public.

Larger law enforcement agencies have created Twitter accounts to provide the public and media with direct and instantaneous information ranging from traffic congestion to descriptions of wanted persons.

KCSD Public Information Officer Sgt. Chad Hill had been researching the program since in November just prior to the death of Sgt. Jeff Shaw, but has now set up the sheriff's department account.

Citizens or media wishing to follow can go to www.twitter.com to create an account, and then add "KCSDnews" to follow the department.

Hill explained that Elkhart County Sheriff's Department is also using the same technology with a very similar user name.

As with Elkhart Co. Sheriff's Dept., only specific and limited information will be sent out pertaining to traffic problems, attempt to locates, etc. that correlates to information in Kosciusko County.
