The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department warns area consumers to be aware of phone solicitors who claim affiliations with local offices.
Often the person making the call works for a telephone communication fund- raiser based out of another state, according to a recent press release from the department. Solicitors may claim to be a local law enforcement officer, the release said.
Other solicitors have even attempted to convince consumers that they already pledged an amount and offer to pick it up. In most cases, this type of solicitation gives the organization they name only 15-19 percent of the amount collected.
Specifically, the Indiana Sheriff's Association has never sponsored a phone solicitation.
