KCH offers smoking cessation classes

Posted
Kosciusko Community Hospital is offering smoking cessation classes to help the community stop smoking.

KCH applied for a grant for the classes last spring.

The grants are available through the Smoke Free Fulton/Kosciusko County Coalition.

The KCH Health and Wellness Center is a member of the coalition.

The grant covers the cost of the American Lung Association materials and time for the facilitator to teach the series of classes.

The classes teach the latest skills in stress management, weight control, assertive communication and exercise skills. It also includes information on the use of nicotine replacements, alternative thinking and behaviors and rewards and group support.

The classes are taught by three certified facilitators.

KCH uses the American Lung Association program "Freedom from Smoking" and has offered the program several times a year at various locations throughout the community and onsight in companies, according to Joy Lohse, KCH director of marketing and public relations.

Each program consists of seven class sessions held over a six-week period.

An initial $25 fee is collected at the first class. The program is free to anyone who attends all the sessions and the $25 will be returned at the last class if the participant attends the classes.

People interested in the classes may call the KCH Health & Wellness Center at 574-372-7890 to learn about class times and locations.
