Posted
Have you been looking for an opportunity to get involved in the community at a leadership level?

The second annual "Get On Board!" event sponsored by the Kosciusko County Community Foundation will be held Sept. 9 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Rodeheaver Auditorium. The event will allow interested people to match their interests and talents with areas such as youth development, historic preservation, parks and recreation, social services, education, the environment and more.

Local non-profits have identified that recruiting and retaining effective board members is a major challenge for them. And, area business people, up and coming leaders and employees concerned about community are all looking for opportunities to connect with a cause and help build a better place to live and work. The goal of the "Get On Board!" Event is bringing talented, interested, competent people together with vibrant organizations with missions and visions that make a difference.

The community benefits greatly when area businesses encourage their employees to share their leadership, education and training, marketing and public relations experience through community service.

Thirty-two not-for-profit organizations will be on hand, with staff and current board members available to answer questions about their organization, their mission and vision for the future, and to explain what they expect from their board members in terms of time commitment, leadership and skills.

Each attendee will be asked to visit these various stations, and then fill out a time and talent survey form.

This survey will gather information about each attendee and their interests and availability. This information will be entered into a database, which will be housed and maintained at the Community Foundation as a "Board Bank." When area not-for-profits are in need of new board members, they can contact the Community Foundation, which will forward information about possible candidates to them, based on criteria that the not-for-profit is seeking.

"Get On Board!" began in 2008 as a KLA White Paper Project.
