KC Solid Waste OKs Budget Transfers

Posted
Kosciusko County Solid Waste Management District board approved budget transfers to cover two funds in the red Tuesday.

The board agreed to transfer $2,665 from building repair and maintenance to the household chemical disposal fund, to cover a negative fund balance of $2,664.80, and $450 from maintenance to conference and continuing education, to cover a $216.37 negative balance.

The maintenance fund had a balance of $6,987.60 before the transfers.

The county recycling depot has spent between $6,000 and $10,000 a month for the last three months on disposing household chemicals, said Director Sue Studebaker. It’s a free service for residential customers so there is no income to offset the cost, she said.

“It’s just that people have really been using the services,” she told the board. “We encourage people to use stuff up rather than us disposing of it.”

Household chemicals the depot disposes of include solvents, poisons and fertilizer, which county officials don’t want going down drains and into area lakes.
