MISHAWAKA – Kay Ann Leonard, 75, went home to our Father in Heaven Nov. 7, 2015. She was born May 19, 1940, at the Cass Community Hospital, Logansport, to Joseph Sylvester Melvin and Eva Anna Elizabeth McCormick Martin. On Sept. 10, 1960, she married U.S. Air Force Lt. John W. Leonard, who survives. As a child she lived in Lucerne, Leiters Ford, Delong, South Bend, Winona Lake and Warsaw. She graduated from high school in Warsaw, Class of 1958, and then attended the Elkhart Hospital School of X-Ray Technology and graduated Sept. 9, 1960. Kay, John and their children traveled extensively for the next 22 years with the USAF. They lived at Selfridge Air Force Base, Michigan; Phalsboug Air Force Base, France, Hanscom Field, Ma.; Headquarters Air Defense Command, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Armed Forces Northern Europe, Oslo, Norway; Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida; Grissom Air Force Base, Indiana; and Rochester when John retired from the Air Force. While in Rochester she worked as an x-ray technician at the hospital. In 1986, they moved to South Bend. She worked as an x-ray technician for the South Bend Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Clinic for 10 years. Following a stroke at that time, Kay and John enjoyed gardening and selling antiques. In 2005, she had a more severe stroke with brain stem injury and she became a resident of Miller’s Merry Manor Nursing Home, Wakarusa, where she lived the rest of her life. Also surviving are a son, Troy Eric Leonard, Topeka, Kan.; a daughter, Tracey Ann (and spouse Mark) Van Iwarrden, Lafayette, Colo.; a son, Mark Joseph (and spouse Nancy) Leonard, and their triplets, Alysa, Christian and Zachary Leonard, Overland Park, Kan.; and two sisters, Zelpha Frushour and Shirley Combs, Warren. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John and Jim Martin. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Coalbush United Methodist Church, Mishawaka.
