BOURBON - Kathleen Mason, 86, passed away July 24, 2009.
She was born May 14, 1923, on a farm near Claypool, to Foster and Vesta Arnold. On Dec. 1, 1949, she married Seth Mason, who preceded her in death.
She graduated from Manchester College in 1945, and began her 35- year teaching career in Etna Green before teaching at Triton High School until her retirement. During her time teaching at Etna Green she met her future husband and they began their 44-year marriage together. She loved to travel and stay in touch with her many friends she made over the years. She was a longtime and faithful member of Etna Green Church of Christ.
Our mother had a good life, which she never took for granted and was always there for those in need. She was involved in many organizations, committees and charities such as the Salvation Army Auxiliary, Red Cross, ONO, Neighborhood Club, Indiana Teachers Retirement Association and Kosciusko County Historical Society. She was also a 25-year volunteer at Kosciusko Community Hospital. She served on numerous boards including the K21 Foundation, Kosciusko County Home Health Care, Remembrance Park, the Heritage Park and the Etna Green Museum. In 2006 she was nominee for the Heart of Gold Award.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are a daughter, Avis (and spouse Richmond) Slone, Etna Green: a son, David (and spouse Ann) Mason, Carmel; and three grandchildren, Travis and Allison Slone and Nicholas Mason. She was preceded in death by a son, Bradley, and a sister, Eva Palmer.
A celebration of her life will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Etna Green Church of Christ, 206 W. Broadway St., Etna Green. Burial will be in Etna Green Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, Bourbon, is in charge of arrangements.
