Katherine Elizabeth King, 95, of 425 Chinworth Court, Warsaw, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Oct. 27, 2010, in Gardens of Lake City, Warsaw.
She was born Jan. 25, 1915, in Washtucna, Wash., to Joseph Gareth and Amelia Rogers Crosby. On Aug. 8, 1940, she married George Donald King, who died in 2006.
She graduated from Lewis & Clark High School, Spokane, Wash. She then attended Whitworth College, Spokane, and later attended Washington State University, receiving her bachelor's degree in 1941. In the 1960s she received her teaching certificate from the University of Washington. Because her husband was a Naval officer, they lived in many areas including Seattle, Pasadena, Washington, D.C., and New Jersey. The family moved back to the Seattle area after World War II, residing on Mercer Island until 1967 and attended Mercer Island Covenant Church, where she was the organist and a Sunday school teacher. Then in 1967, they moved to Topsfield, Mass., where they attended Topsfield Congregational Church, taught Sunday school and worked with the youth group. She taught reading and English at the middle school. In 1997, they moved to Warsaw and were members of Pleasant View Bible Church. She was a homemaker, a member of the Winona Lake Literary Club and enjoyed her family, sewing, square dancing, skiing and swimming.
She will be lovingly remembered by two sons: Barry (and spouse Ruth Ann) King, Warsaw; Stanley (and spouse Ellen Rider) King, River Falls, Wis.; a daughter, Sylvia (and spouse Robert) Jolliff, Marion; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Roger (and spouse Joan) Crosby, Orcas Island, Wash.; and a brother-in-law, Quentin (and spouse Jean) King, Spokane, Wash. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Pleasant View Bible Church, 2782 W. CR 200N, Warsaw, with Pastor Ralph Porter officiating. A private graveside service will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.
