AKRON – Karen S. Ellenwood, 66, Akron, died at 12:33 a.m. April 12, 2016, at the Center for Hospice Care, South Bend. She was born March 10, 1950, in Louisville, Ky., to George and Lillian Parks Welch. On Jan. 17, 1970, in Louisville, Ky., she married Gary B. Ellenwood, who survives in Akron. She was a homemaker and worked for 10 years at Winona Corporation, Mentone, as well as Viking Foods, Akron. She was a graduate of duPont Manual High School, Louisville, Ky. She enjoyed attending and cheering loudly for her kids’ and grandkids’ sporting events. Also surviving are two daughters, Gina (and spouse Tad) Staller, Fort Wayne, and Jessica Ellenwood, Chicago, Ill.; two sons, Jeff (and spouse Stephanie) Ellenwood, Akron, and Jonathan (and spouse Shi’Ann) Ellenwood, Mentone; 12 grandchildren: Ariel, Brice, Sabrina, Tad Jr., Doug, Koria, Olivia, Alexandra, Jackson, Kayley, Alissa, and Branden; two great-grandchildren, Ariana and Blake; two sisters, LeEtta (and spouse Bill) McGarren, Brandenburg, Ky., and Linda Howlett, Elizabethtown, Ky.; and two brothers, Herbie (and spouse Rosie) Welch, Brandenburg, Ky., and Mike (and spouse Darlene) Welch, Shepherdsville, Ky. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Coleman Howlett. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Akron, with Pastor Randy Samuels officiating.
