AKRON – At the Tippecanoe Valley School Board meeting Monday, the board accepted a K21 Health Foundation $30,000 grant award to Tippecanoe Valley High School, in support of TVHS’s Project Lead the Way Biomedical Program.

The scope of the grant focuses on two priority initiatives which include the opportunity and exposure for college and career pathway development in the orthopedic (biomedical) and health-related fields, according to a press release from TVSC. The program also includes engaging STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) curriculum focusing in greater detail on scientific experiences as the biomedical field continues to expand with critical importance. The grant includes PLTW curriculum, supplies and professional development.

TVHS Principal Brandon Kresca said, “Tippecanoe Valley High School is so thankful for the contributions made by the K21 Health Foundation to help fund this grant for our PLTW Biomedical Program. TVHS students are very excited for this opportunity to continue to learn about the medical field. This course will dive deeper into the medical profession and will, hopefully, help to grow some of this community’s next medical workers. On behalf of TVHS students, and science teacher Jon Hutton, thank you for this wonderful opportunity.”

K21 Health Foundation’s mission is to exist for the benefit of Kosciusko County residents to ensure health care services are provided and to advance prevention and healthy living.  K21 Health Foundation has been committed to this mission for the last 20 years in its communities and has been an outstanding and vital partner in health-education opportunities for students, states the release.

“Training the next generation of health professionals for our county is an important role for our education institutions in this community, and K21 is excited for the opportunity this affords students at Tippecanoe Valley High School,” shared Rich Haddad, president and CEO of K21.

TVSC is committed to student success through the development of character, leadership and literacy, according to the release.
