A recent K21 Health Foundation grant of $47,461 will allow Lake City BMX Club to make needed improvements to the BMX track at Hire Park in Warsaw. The funds also will help purchase a new state-of-the-art starting gate for the track. According to a press release from K21 Health Foundation, for at least 30 years riders of all ages have flocked to the park to compete in sanctioned races or to just ride for enjoyment. “K21 is committed to helping our community offer a variety of physical fitness activities,” said Rich Haddad, K21 president and CEO. “We realize that more traditional sports like baseball or football don’t appeal to everyone, so we are excited that our grant will help Lake City BMX Club to renovate the Hire Park track and bring more attention to BMX biking.” Dan Rumple, track operator, said, “With these improvements we are able to bring Hire Park to the level expected of an Olympic sport. We hope that more people within the community will come and see what BMX is all about, and maybe even give the track a try themselves.” He said young or old, all abilities and everyone is welcome. Track renovations are currently underway in anticipation of the beginning of the 2015 racing season. For more information, call 574-268-7433.
