K21 Funds BYC Bus Purchase

Posted
Baker Youth Club has a new way to get more kids to the club.
K21 Health Foundation recently approved a grant of $30,000 to BYC to purchase a new bus, which is used to provide rides for kids who would otherwise have difficulty finding transportation to the facility. BYC members have access to homework help, physical fitness activities, mentoring, social skills and healthy snacks, all with adult supervision.
During the school year, the bus picks up students from Harrison, Lincoln, Madison and Jefferson elementary schools. As a WCS designated stop, Washington students can ride the school bus to BYC. During the summer, the BYC bus also transports Syracuse area kids to the facility.
“Our current bus only seated 32 and we had a waiting list of approximately 25,” said BYC Executive Director Tracy Furnivall. “Because of its age, it was also in constant need of costly repair and maintenance. The new bus seats 66, which will help us serve even more children.”
“K21 appreciates the commitment of Baker Youth Club to the children in our area in offering a safe place to develop and thrive,” said K21 CEO Rich Haddad. “BYC gives kids opportunities for physical fitness, nutrition, and mentoring that they might not otherwise have. We are thrilled to be able to help BYC offer those opportunities to even more kids in our community.”
