Jury Selection Under Way Inm Crooks' Trial

Posted

Jury selection continued late this morning in the Kristina Crooks trial, which began today in Kosciusko Circuit Court.

As of press time, no jurors had been seated from the pool of 70 - twice the normal number of potential jurors called. A 12-member jury is being chosen to hear the information surrounding the death of Crooks' 11-month-old daughter, Lois Marie Ozenbaugh, who died Jan. 24, 1997.

Crooks, 20, of North Webster, is charged with reckless homicide, neglect of a dependent causing serious bodily injury, and eventually death, and neglect (prior to the child's death).

Court documents show that Ozenbaugh died after vomiting and choking on her stomach contents. Autopsy and toxicology reports found cigarettes in the child's stomach contents and Valium in her blood.

The trial is scheduled to run through Friday.
