'Jumper' Causes Traffic Rerouting

Posted

Traffic on U.S. 30 and Ind. 15 was rerouted for a while Tuesday because a distraught man was threatening to jump from the overpass.

Police spent more than an hour coaxing Larry Doug Lindstrom, 34, of North Webster, down from the bridge. He was then taken to the Bowen Center on a 24-hour emergency detention.

A passerby alerted authorities shortly after 11 a.m. that a man was sitting on the edge of the overpass. When police arrived, Lindstrom said that he was having some problems and that it was the "last straw."

Police said that Lindstrom would, at times, become irate and move closer to the edge, then would call down and talk to officers. He finally said he would come down if jailer Gordy Nash would drive him from the scene.

Nash arrived and Lindstrom got into his car. He was then taken into custody by the other officers and transported to the Bowen Center.
