LANCASTER, Pa. – Judith Ann Ciotola, 69, of Lancaster, Pa., died July 2, 2011, in Lancaster Regional Medical Center, after a brief struggle with cancer.
She was born to Paul and Kathryn Hudson, who preceded her in death. She married Nicholas P. Ciotola, a classmate at Elon. The marriage ended in 1984. He preceded her in death.
She was a native of Warsaw. The daughter of a U.S. Army officer, she resided in her youth in Austria, Thailand and Alaska. She graduated from Elon College in 1964 with a bachelor’s degree in French. She served as secretary of her class at Elon and was a member of Gamma Epsilon sorority. She appeared in “Who’s Who Among Students at American Universities and Colleges, 1964-65.” She pursued graduate studies in French at the University of Indiana.
She was a voracious reader and an appreciator of the fine arts, history and literature. A lover of cats, she took in strays and contributed to the Humane Society and other animal relief organizations. She enjoyed flower gardening, collecting Pennsylvania German pottery, touring historic homes, vacationing on the Outer Banks in North Carolina, reuniting with her sorority sisters and spending time with family. She never missed a birthday greeting to those dear to her.
She was a pre-school teacher in Hartsdale and Brewster, N.Y., and was a substitute teacher in Lancaster County schools. Later in life she worked for the YWCA of Lancaster and the U.S. Postal Service. She was postmaster at Talmage, Pa.
Surviving are two sons, Nicholas P. Ciotola Jr., Pittsburgh, and Andrew P. Ciotola, Lewisburg; a sister, Paula Everett, Edinburg, Va.; two brothers, Jeffrey Hudson, Marrietta, and Michael Hudson, Mount Joy; and a grandson.
A private burial will be in Harrison Center Cemetery, Etna Green.
