COLUMBIA CITY - Joyce Joan Lindemann Nestel, 83, of South Whitley, passed away at 7:30 p.m. March 23, 2011, in her residence.

She was born Oct. 28, 1927, in Wells County, to Ralph J. and Juanita Shady Lindemann. On July 10, 1947, in Wells County, she married Dan A. Nestel, who preceded her in death.

She graduated from Lancaster High School, Wells County, in 1945 and completed her education at Indiana University. She spent her adult lifetime in Tocsin, Bluffton, Rockford, Ill., Churubusco and South Whitley since 1965. She was a secretary and worked in the marketing department at RCA, Bloomington; then she and her husband co-owned Bliss Cafe, Bluffton; worked for Dr. Sheppard's dental office in South Whitley; and lastly owned Strawberry Patch Antiques, South Whitley.

Surviving are her children: Dana N. (and spouse Ed) Bristow, Fort Wayne; Denise L. Nestel, Houston, Texas; and Bradley L. Nestel, Darci L. (and spouse Joe) Kessie, both of South Whitley; grandchildren: Micah Besson, Lancaster, Calif.; Danielle (and spouse Jared) Riske, San Diego, Calif.; Marcus Besson, Grand Rapids, Mich.; Nicole, Chloe Nestel and Taylor Kessie, all of South Whitley; Kaitlin Kessie, Birmingham, Mich.; Jason Bristow, Holt, Mich.; and Andrea Ykema, Hudsonville, Mich.; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A private family service will be at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, with Pastor Bob Herman officiating. Burial will be at a later date in South Whitley Cemetery.

Calling is from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
