NORTH MANCHESTER - Josie Marie Heckaman, 19, of Silver Lake, died at 9:50 a.m. March 20, 2010, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, following an accident earlier that day.

She was born May 21, 1990, in South Bend, to Jay D. and Sharon K. Wright Heckaman, Silver Lake.

She formerly worked at Dairy Queen, North Manchester, for three years, and was currently a student at Ivy Tech, Fort Wayne, studying agriculture education. She graduated from Manchester High School in 2008, where she was a member of the track team, active in Future Farmers of America and played saxophone in the Manchester High School band. She was a 10-year member of Wabash County 4-H, a Star Camper at Camp Mollenhour, Silver Lake, and had achieved her Silver Award in Girl Scouts of America. She loved her family and friends, enjoyed camping, the outdoors and her pets. She attended South Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Also surviving are paternal grandparents, Merl and Joann Heckaman, Warsaw, and maternal grandfather, Waitsel "Gummy" Wright, Akron; paternal great-grandparents, Kenneth and Bonnie Gragg, Warsaw; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Adeline G. Matzat-Wright.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at South Pleasant United Methodist Church, Ind. 15 and CR 1400N, Wabash (three miles south of Silver Lake), with Pastor Nikkie Marker. Burial will be in South Pleasant Cemetery, Wabash County.

Calling is from 3 to 8 p.m. today at McKee Mortuary, 1401 Ind. 114W, North Manchester, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church.
