BURKET – Joshua A. Tucker, 15, Claypool, has earned the highest advancement award the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award.

Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges, complete many hours of community service, and successfully complete a service project to earn his Eagle Scout rank. Tucker chose to clean the Franklin Township cemetery on Ind. 14, west of Silver Lake, on Oct. 11. The cemetery is more than 100 years old and is now ready for restoration by the Historical Society of Kosciusko County.

Tucker passed his Eagle Board of Review March 13 and his Eagle Court of Honor ceremony was May 28 to recognize his accomplishments.

A member of Troop 782 of Burket, Tucker has served as senior patrol leader and assistant patrol leader for his patrol. He is a member of Order of the Arrow and has received the Blue Heron Camper Award three times at Boy Scout camp.

Tucker joins other American citizens who have become Eagle Scouts, among them former President Gerald R. Ford Jr., astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, cinematographer Steven Spielberg and the head of the FBI, William Sessions.

Tucker is a member of Beaver Dam United Methodist Church, and is a member of several athletic activities at Tippecanoe Valley High School, where he is a sophomore.

He is the son of Jeff and Kristine Tucker, Claypool, and the grandson of Mitch and Linda Tucker, Claypool, and Dale and Joyce Joy, North Manchester.
