Since singing with Island Records, McLaughlin increased his public image by providing music for the popular TV shows “Scrubs,” “The Ghost Whisperer” and “A Little Thing Called Life.” To date, three Hollywood-released films have included songs from McLaughlin such as “Bridge to Terabithia,” “Georgia Rule” and the Disney film “Enchanted.” His song in the film “Enchanted” called “So Close” received an Oscar nomination at the 80th Academy Awards. McLaughlin opened on Kelly Clarkson’s “My December” Tour in 2007 and has also toured extensively with singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles. He recorded a trio with Jason Mraz and Van Hunt for the Randy Jackson duets album “Randy Jackson’s Music Club, Vol. 1.” In June 2008, McLaughlin premiered “Beating My Heart” on the radio, which was praised by Billboard single reviews editor Chuck Taylor. “It’s high time for singer-songwriter Jon McLaughlin to earn his due,” he said. He also co-wrote “Falling Over Me” and “Every Time You Lie” with Demi Lovato for her second album “Here We Go Again.” McLaughlin released an album Sept. 7, 2011, called “Forever If Ever,” which he financed and released himself. The first single from the album, “Summer is Over,” featuring Sara Bareilles, was released on Jan. 10.
