Jomac Demolition

Posted

G & G Hauling & Excavating began the demolition of the former Jomac buildings Thursday. Smith Street, between Grant Street and North Bay Drive, will be closed during business hours only for about the next month while the demolition takes place. Motorists are encouraged to use Winona Avenue as a detour. The physical addresses of the buildings are 1624 and 1600 E. Winona Ave. and Smith Street, Warsaw. They are owned by Fellowship Missions, but the city applied for and received an Office of Community and Rural Affairs grant on Fellowship Missions’ behalf for the demolition and asbestos abatement. Fellowship Missions’ plan for the property is to demolish it, make it into greenspace and then eventually build a new shelter there to replace the current shelter. Once the new shelter is built, the old one will be shut down, demolished and become a parking lot for the new shelter. For the demolition of the buildings, G & G Hauling & Excavating was the lowest bidder at $322,896. Environmental Management Specialists Inc. was the lowest bidder for the asbestos abatement at $100,305.
