Johnson Taking Over At Rozella Ford

Jeff Johnson has fond memories of Rozella Ford Golf Course.
The lifetime Warsaw resident says he grew up on the course, and he wants future generations to be able to do the same.
“I’m taking over operations of the course, with the intent of buying it,” Johnson said in a phone interview Thursday afternoon. “I grew up on the course, and I don’t want to see it turn into a cornfield.”
The course, located on the south side of Warsaw on Ind. 25, is currently owned by the Lakeland Golfers Association.
According to a release from the LGA, the Board of Directors has decided it is in the best interest of the stockholders and membership to seek new owners that would be willing and able to invest in the golf course.
The release states that a number of factors went into the decision, including a tough economy, severe weather the last two summers and a failed lease with the restaraunt at the course.
Johnson said he wants “to make it fun to golf at Rozella again.”
Johnson also said he has joined forces with Deb Wiggins, who will work with the business side of things.
In addition, Johnson said former Stonehenge pro Jeff Shoemaker will serve as the pro at Rozella Ford, and Randy Denny – the course’s former maintenance superintendent – has offered to be a consultant.
“I’ve surrounded myself with great people,” said Johnson. “I’ve surrounded myself by people who care about the course as much as I do. All the feedback I’ve gotten has been very positive.”
Johnson said his “vision” includes improvements to the driving range, pro shop, clubhouse and the course.
Johnson plans on removing approximately 100 trees from the course, and said his experience in the landscaping business will help in the process of course maintenance and improvement.
“I really care about the course,” said Johnson. “I have a vision that will make the course fun again.”
Johnson said that one of his priorities is taking care of the members.
“The members are very important,” said Johnson. “We’re going to honor lifetime memberships and pre-paid memberships. We’ve already got about 85 new members. All the feedback I’ve gotten has been good.”
