The Kosciusko County Right to Life Board recently met and the following was discussed and agreed upon. For those who would like to make their opinions known on this issue, we suggest that they go to Indiana Right to Life's website: www.protectinglife.com for more information and to e-mail a message to Sen. Richard Lugar.
The Kosciusko County Right to Life Board unanimously agreed to ask Sen. Lugar to reconsider his support for President Barack Obama's nomination of Dawn Johnsen. Ms. Johnsen's radical pro-abortion positions make her unqualified to fill the position of Assistant Attorney General for the Office of Legal Counsel. Her views regarding pro-lifers and abortion show a potential to restrict the free speech of pro-life citizens.
We understand that the President has the right to appoint individuals to positions as he so desires. However, we also understand that when a nominee has serious flaws our current form of government provides the opportunity and responsibility for Senators to vote against the nomination.
We believe that Ms. Johnsen has serious flaws for the following reasons:
1) She has compared pregnancy to slavery;
2) She has argued that the government should strip the catholic church and other religious denominations of their tax exempt status because of their pro-life advocacy;
3) She believes that a pre-born child has no separate existence apart from the mother;
4) She has compared pro-life protesters to the Ku Klux Klan;
5) She was heavily involved in the authorship of the Freedom of Choice Act, which would repeal every state and federal restriction on abortion;
6) She has a long track record of intolerance to positions conflicting with her pro-abortion agenda.
The Kosciusko County Right to Life Board would like to remind Senator Lugar that he represents voters in Kosciusko County and Indiana, not President Obama.
