John R. Gunter

John R. Gunter, 48, of Warsaw, died at 10:15 p.m. Aug. 19, 2012, in his residence.           
 
He was born Nov. 1, 1963, in Warsaw, to Melvin and Bonnie Kinzie Gunter.

He graduated from Warsaw Community High School in 1982. He entered into the U.S. Navy at AFEES, Indianapolis, Feb. 2, 1986, working within the electrical maintenance field and for a short time as a recruiter. GSEJ John R. Gunter was honorably discharged and retired in 2000 from PERSUPPDET NTC Great Lakes, Ill., in 2000, after an 18-year career. Living most of his life in Warsaw, he worked at Medtronic Inc., Warsaw, and was a member of American Legion Post 49. He enjoyed camping and boating (just floating on the water) and road trips with the destination a surprise to everyone but him. He was a loving father and brother. His smile would light up the room and his heart was made of gold with his caring spirit and thoughtfulness.

Surviving are three daughters, Ashley (and spouse Chris) VanDurmen and Megan Gunter, all of Warsaw, and Amelia Kellog, Walnut Creek, Calif.; a grandson, Jacoby VanDurmen; a brother, Timothy Gunter, Warsaw; a sister, Betsy (and spouse Ray) Scott, North Webster; eight nieces and nephews: Josh, David, Dan  and Joe Gunter; Haylee and Cynthia Wagner; and Blake and Jiles Scott. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie Gunter, who died March 12, 1983; a sister, Debra Gunter, who died Jan. 8, 2012; and a sister-in-law, Deborah Gunter, who died June 12, 2010.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, officiated by Pastor Jack Worth of Dutchtown Brethren Church, Warsaw, and with military honors by Warsaw’s American Legion Post 49 and      Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1126. Burial will be at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
