John R. “Bud” Shear, 87, Winona Lake, passed away June 3, 2016, at Grace Village Healthcare, Winona Lake, in the loving presence of his family at the time of his passing. He was born Dec. 28, 1928, in Pierceton, to Marion E. and Elma A. Eberly Shear. On May 15, 1948, in Columbia City, he married Donna Roberts, who survives in Warsaw. He was a long-time resident of Kosciusko County, where he worked as an automotive mechanic and truck driver, ultimately retiring from Warsaw Community Schools as a bus driver, where he took great pleasure in his work. He especially enjoyed driving the girls basketball team, who he was sure to give a hard time as he picked on them. He spent nearly 30 years as a member of Mizpah Shrine Temple, Fort Wayne, and the Shrine Horse Patrol. He also spent more than 50 years as member of Pierceton Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. 377. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and loved horseback riding. Also surviving are a son, Steven (and spouse Michele) Shear, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; a daughter, Cathy (and spouse Dennis) Lundgren, Warsaw; four grandsons: Christopher Aker, Warsaw; Michael (and spouse Jen) Shear, Naperville, Ill.; David (and spouse Sara) Shear, Franklin, Tenn.; Adam Shear, Mishawaka; a granddaughter, Courtney (and spouse Troy) King, Warsaw; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Shear; and a sister, Helen Baxter. Graveside services will be at a later date at Oakwood Cemetery.
