SYRACUSE – John O. Leonard, 69, Syracuse, passed away May 31, 2016, in Boca Grande, Fla. He was born Sept. 11, 1946, in Fort Wayne, to Thomas Spurgeon and Marie Lou O’Connor Leonard. On April 15, 2016, in Syracuse, he married Sharee L. Rummel Lynch, who survives in Syracuse. He graduated in 1964 from Southside High School, Fort Wayne, and received his bachelor’s degree in economics and finance and his master’s in business administration degree in economics and finance from Indiana University School of Business, Bloomington. He served in the National Guard. He lived his life in Fort Wayne, Zionsville, and Syracuse areas. He was the owner, operator and CEO of American Mortgage Reality Inc., Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, for 15 years. He formerly was the president of Real American Mortgage Corporation, Fort Wayne, and worked for Lafayette Life Insurance Co., and American United Life Insurance Co. for several years. He attended Wawasee Lakeside Chapel and Wawasee Boat In church services. Also surviving are two daughters, Clara Leonard, Indianapolis, and Christina Leonard, Davis, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Tahnee (and spouse Kenneth Peter) Dunlap, Toronto, Calif.; and a granddaughter, Malacha Leonard. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Thomas Leonard. Private family services will take place at Wawasee Lakeside Chapel with Pastor Harlan Steffen officiating. A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. with a memorial service at 7 p.m. Thursday at the family home, 11325 N. Cedar Point Road, Syracuse.
