John Lee GilbertJohn Lee Gilbert, 84, formerly of Warsaw, and Autumn Trace in Plymouth,  died at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022, at Hickory Creek at Winamac Nursing Home in Winamac.  

He was born Jan. 5, 1938, in Whitley County, to Amanda L. Hyndman and Ruthaford B. Gilbert. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1961 and proudly served until his honorable discharge Aug. 22, 1974. During his time with the Army, he was stationed for a period of time in Germany and received the Vietnam Service Medal after serving two tours of duty in Vietnam.  

John’s life will be celebrated with a service at noon Thursday, Oct. 13 at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, Warsaw.  Friends and family may visit two hours prior to the service from 10 a.m. to noon. A graveside service will follow at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw with military rites conducted by members of the American Legion Post #49, V.F.W. #1126 and active-duty members of the Army Honor Guard.  

Memorial donations may be directed to Kosciusko County Community Foundation Inc., 102 E. Market St., Warsaw, IN  46580 in memo line to be designated to “Kosciusko County Riley Kids Fund”; or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
