BOURBON – John Homer Mason, 77, of rural Etna Green, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 5, 2012, in Warsaw Meadows Care Center.
He was born Nov. 5, 1934, in Warsaw, to LeRoy and Nettie Jordan Mason. On Nov. 5, 1933, he married Ileen Keb, who died July 19, 2001.
He was a resident of the Etna Green and Bourbon area most all his life. He was a 20-year U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War and two terms in the Vietnam War. He was a mess cook sergeant. Locally, he worked at Orthopedic Equipment Co., Wire flex and Bourbon Plastics. He was an avid sports fan, loved to watch his grandchildren play sports and was an outdoorsman. He was a member and past commander of Bourbon American Legion Post 424 and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of Bourbon First United Methodist Church and attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church, Atwood.
Surviving are his children: Jami (and spouse Todd) McIntyre, Jenny (and spouse Jim) Reichert and Jan (and spouse Jerry) Ulmer, all of Bourbon, and Johnny Mason, Lincoln, Neb., along with their mother, Sharon Sheaks, Bourbon; eight step-children; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and his good friend, Doris Hamman. He also was preceded in death by two sons, Ricky Ray and Sonny Jay Mason.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Deaton-Clemens Funeral Home, 115 S. Main St., Bourbon, with the Rev. Stormy Scherer-Berry officiating. Burial will be in Etna Green Cemetery with a military graveside service by members of Bourbon American Legion.
