John Henry Slabaugh

NAPPANEE – John Henry Slabaugh, age 81, of Etna Green, died unexpectedly at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2021, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, after a short illness.  

He was born on Sept. 4, 1939, in Elkhart County, to Simon and Susie Hochstetler Slabaugh. Mr. Slabaugh married Laura Miller on Dec. 1, 1960, in Etna Green. She preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 2013. Mr. Slabaugh lived in the Etna Green area his whole life and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.  

He is survived by two sons: Marlin (Arlene Mae) Slabaugh and Norman (Mary Esther) Slabaugh; and two daughters: Regina Kay (Dennis Eugene) Schmucker and Janita Lynn Slabaugh, all of Etna Green. Mr. Slabaugh is also survived by 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Edward (Mary Ellen) Slabaugh, of Wyer’s Cave, Va.; Howard (Brenda) Slabaugh, of Galloway, Ohio; five sisters: Verna Yoder, of Virginia; Martha (Mahlon) Schmucker, of Bremen; Barbara (Eli) Hochstetler, of Nappanee; Esther (Raymond) Schwartz, of Nappanee; Sue Ellen (Glen) Mast, of Arthur, Ill.; and a sister-in-law, Marie Slabaugh, of Plain City, Ohio.  

John Henry was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers: Omer, Glen, Simon Jr, Larry; and a sister, Mary Hochstetler.

Visitation will be held at the Dennis Schmucker residence, 8874 W. CR 600N, Etna Green, on Sunday, April 18 after 1 p.m. and all day Monday, April 19. Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 20 at the LaVerne Stutzman residence, 6701 N. CR 900W, Etna Green.  Home ministries of the Old Order Amish Church will officiate and burial will be at Graber Cemetery.
