NORTH WEBSTER - John G. Crumb, 88, North Webster died of natural causes at 12:15 p.m. Jan. 16, 2009, at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
He was born May 8, 1920, in Niobe, N.Y., to Claude and Ada Rasor Crumb. On Nov. 19, 1942, he married Doris Fenner, who died in August 2006.
He spent 25 years in Flushing, Mich.; five years in Ann Arbor, Mich.; 20 years in Marion and 21 years in Panama, N.Y., before moving to North Webster in August 2006. He was a 1936 graduate of Lakewood High School in New York, and attended Wheaton (Ill.) College. He received his diploma from Baptist Bible Seminary, Johnson City, N.Y., in 1940. He served his country in the 4th Infantry Division in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked at the Pentagon for five months after the war, reporting to General Eisenhower. He was a minister for 8-1/2 years in Flint, Mich., for Beecher Baptist Church. He retired from General Motors after 22 years of service. He is a past member of Bethel Baptist Church, Jamestown, N.Y., and a member of Bethel Baptist Church, Pierceton.
Surviving are two sons, John (and spouse Eli) Crumb-Ralyea, Chicago, Ill., and Chuck (and spouse Nicola) Crumb, Leroy, Mich.; two daughters, Mary (and spouse Ron) Erb and Sharon Altholz, all of North Webster; 19 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Emily Smith, Xenia, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters: Francis Crumb, Marion Goodrich, Clara DeRosset and Alice Crumb; a brother, David Crumb; and an infant son, Charles David Crumb.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church, 1109 W. Market St., Pierceton, with Pastor Jim Baughman officiating. A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Evergreen Cemetery, Grand Blanc, Mich.
