COLUMBIA CITY – John E. Meyers, 55, of Whitley County, died at 11:07 p.m. Nov. 25, 2012, in Parkview Oaks, where he was a resident since May. On Oct. 13, 1979, he married Jan A. Biggs, who survives.
He was born May 1, 1957, in Fort Wayne, to Edward T. and Alice F. Maguire Meyers. He graduated from Northrop High School and received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University in Lafayette. He made his home in Fort Wayne until 1982 when he moved to Rockford, Ill. In 1986 he moved to Whitley County and moving to his home in Columbia Township in 2002.
A licensed professional engineer, he worked at International Harvester from 1979-81; Warner Electric from 1981-85; and Zimmer Inc., Warsaw, from 1985 until 2012. He was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church and he served as a former Boy Scout leader.
Also surviving are three children: Natalie (and spouse Trent) Barker, Richmond; Mary (and spouse Mike) Porter,   Warsaw; and Nicholas (and spouse Tara) Meyers, Columbia City; four grandchildren; his mother, Alice Meyers, Fort Wayne; and two sisters, Susan Duncan, Fort Wayne, and Sandra Waters, New Haven. He was preceded in death by his father.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City. Burial will be in South Park Annex Cemetery.
Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, and one hour prior to the service Friday at the church.
