SUN CITY, Ariz. – John Davis Illingworth, 95, passed away peacefully in Sun City, Ariz., on Jan. 12, 2013. He was borh July 25, 1917, in Johnstown, Ohio, to Ralph and Isabelle Illingworth. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Jeanne. He was an ordained Presbyterian minister and served pastorates in Petersburg, Ohio; Mercer, Pa.; Wheeling, W.Va.; Kenmore, N.Y.; and Sun City, Ariz. He also served as the Synod Executive of the Synod of the Golden Gate (San Francisco) and was active in founding the Royal Oaks Life Care Retirement Community in Sun City, Ariz. His mother and father moved to Winona Lake in 1926, and he and his family vacationed here every year. He served as interim pastor at Winona Lake Presbyterian Church during summer 1982. Surviving are four sons: Davis Jr. (and spouse Cynthia) and Mark (and spouse Jan) Illingworth, all of Winona Lake; Curtis (and spouse Mary) Illingworth, San Luis Obispo, Calif.; and Paul (and spouse Patty) Illingworth, Castro, Calif.; 11 grandchildren: Spencer, Trevor, Blair, Greer, Emily, Lynn, Wendy, Tom, Cindy, Diana and Robin; nine great-grandchildren: Jesse, Leanne, Tyler, Blake, Ross Braden, Quinn, Owen and Menden; and two more great-grandchildren on the way. A memorial service was conducted Feb. 22, 2013, at Faith United Presbyterian Church, Sun City, Ariz. ***** His interest in people created a network of friends that spanned the United States. His memory will be in our hearts forever and we will find peace in knowing that his love is eternal. He will be greatly missed.
