NORTH WEBSTER – Joe “Fragile” Ray, 60, of Milford, died March 30, 2012, in his residence.
He was born Aug. 17, 1951, in Warsaw, to John Emmett and Ruth Evelyn Waggy Ray. He was formerly married in 1970 to Sue Ann Donnelly Hartley, who survives. On July 5, 1981, in Syracuse, he married Linda I. Porter Haines, who died April 24, 2011.
He lived all of his life in the North Webster/Milford area and graduated from Wawasee High School in 1969. He was the former owner and operator of Porter House Restaurant, Milford, for several years; formerly worked at Heaters Inc., North Webster, for many years; and was a self-employed salesman. He was a life member and charter member of Sons of the American Legion Post 253, North Webster, where he served as commander from 1976-78. He formerly coached little league baseball in North Webster and played in a band with his brother-in- law, Ron Harris.
Surviving are a daughter, Alyssa Jo Schmucker (and Monty Lackey), North Webster; a son, Jason Robert Ray (and Angela Cummins), Elkhart; a stepdaughter, Tammy (and spouse Jim) Kraft, New Paris; a stepson, Kevin Haines, Milford; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Rita (and spouse Bill) Harris-Volk, North Webster.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. May 5 at the American Legion, North Webster. A private graveside service will be Wednesday at Milford Cemetery.
