Editor, Times-Union: In 2010, United States Representative Democrat Joe Donnelly buckled under Nancy Pelosi and Barak Obama’s pressure and voted in favor of Obama’s health care reform law. Included in that law there is an added whopping 2.3 percent tax on medical device manufacturers. Although this soon-to-be-implemented tax doesn’t affect many areas on a significant level, it definitely does affect ours in the Warsaw area. Additionally, a large part of Indiana businesses are influenced by the medical device manufacturing industry. Increasing their tax rates will hamper not only the creation of new products, but also the creation of more jobs for Hoosiers. In the race for Indiana’s United States Senate seat, Joe Donnelly has listed jobs and lower taxes as two pillars of his platform. This is a total contradiction of his voting record. We Hoosiers need to focus on electing a senator that is his “own man” and has their priorities straight. Joe Donnelly was wrong when he voted for this tax and the additional burden on Hoosiers, and Joe Donnelly is wrong for the United States Senate. Mike Ragan Warsaw, via e-mail
