Job Creator

Editor, Times-Union:
I would like to comment and elaborate on the term “job creator.”
Many of those in our nation that are wealthy have acquired that wealth through industry. An industry or business, large or small, can only grow if it is profitable and business success is determined by the rate at which it grows.
Anyone that has any business experience knows that labor is considered a liability. Excess labor can be a stumbling block to business growth and higher profits. That is why manufacturing has become more automated and outsourced.
I once heard it said that a business is formed to make money for the owners, not to create jobs. It is not a humanitarian act because there is little compassion or concern for others in a capitalistic society. That society revolves around shrewd business tactics, high finance and consumption. The desire to be “number one” is the goal and a priority.
Distorted capitalism is the 1 percent having the freedom to obtain and control the largest portion of the pie while the 99 percent have the freedom fight over the remains. Please note that I used the word “distorted.”
Our government in the past has attempted to encourage job creation with corporate tax breaks and other incentives with little or no results. Substantial job creation can only become a reality when big business is willing to be satisfied with a reasonable profit and compassionately put the interest of the common people first.
Therefore, I am not convinced that having a successful billionaire business man as president, especially during this difficult economic period, will be beneficial.
It is written that a wealthy man approached Jesus and asked, “What must I do to have eternal life”? Jesus responded that he should obey the commandments, sell all of his processions, give the proceeds to the poor and follow Him. The wealthy man walked away sad. Jesus then turned to His disciples and said, “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.”
May we all be a blessing to God through our actions and deeds.
