NAPPANEE - Joanna M. Hoke, 93, of 605 N. Williams St., Nappanee, died at 11:35 a.m. Feb. 8, 2009, in her residence.
She was born Oct. 21, 1915, in Garrett, to Oscar F. and Nellie Wagner Stump. On June 24, 1938, she married Ralph E. Hoke, who died Oct. 19, 1988.
Moving to Nappanee from Garrett in 1990, she graduated from Messiah Academy High School in 1933, and Mesiah Jr. College in 1936. She was a homemaker, a bookkeeper for her husband's Shell Oil business and was a nurse's aid and volunteered at hospitals. She was a member of Brethren in Christ Church, where she served as deacon and shepherd and was a former member of Christian Union Brethren in Christ Church, Garrett, where she served as deacon. She was active in Child Evangelism Fellowship and Youth for Christ and entertained missionaries, evangelists and many others in her home.
Surviving are a son, Stanley (and spouse Carol) Hoke, Indianapolis; two daughters, Meredyth (and spouse Dan) Wollmann, Nappanee, and Anita (and spouse Andy) Stoner, Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Willard (and spouse Jean) Stump, Canton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by a son and a sister.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Brethren in Christ Church with the Rev. Jay Williams officiating, assisted by Pastor Joe Laher. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Christian Union Cemetery, Garrett.
